Hanley Town exited the FA Cup on Saturday losing 2-0 to Spalding United, but the National League North side were made to work hard before two late goals saw the Lincolnshire side through to the next round.

Hanley Town started brightly applying early pressure on the hosts without creating a clear cut opportunities. Spalding's Jarvis had a shot at goal comfortably saved by Knight, who would go on to produce a man of the match performance with a number of saves to keep Hanley in the tie.
Sembie-Ferris headed just wide of the post for the home side from a long throw. Jake Twyford had a shot blocked for Hanley.

A Betteka through ball released Jarvis but the Spalding player's shot hit the top of the crossbar. Hanley keeper Lucas Knight pulled off a brilliant save to deny Barton. Spalding Utd had the ball in the net when Sembie-Ferris scored but was ruled out for offside. Just before the interval Max Van Der Laan headed just wide of the post for Hanley.

The deadlock was broken on 73 minutes at a time when Hanley were enjoying a good period in the game, a Fowkes cross along the face of the goal found Sembie-Ferris to find the net. Hanley Town keeper produced a brilliant double saves from both Straughan-Brown and Sani.

Jake Twyford fired over the crossbar as Hanley looked to get back into the tie. With 3 minutes to go Lazanby and Twyford combined well for Hanley with the latter firing in a shot with the Spalding keeper Crook saving. Spalding doubled their lead on 90 minutes a ball pulled back by Fowkes found Pugh to fire home.
