
Hanley Town had to come from behind twice to take all three points in this local derby against Newcastle Town at the NBe Brokers Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday in front of a large crowd.
Castle started the brighter of the two sides J.Jones hitting a shot from the edge of the area on 6 minutes which Hanley keeper Knight saved comfortably. The visitors bright start was eventually rewarded with a goal,a poor pass out of defence was intercepted by Bower who sent J.Jones racing clear his shot across goal found the back of the net via the post.
On 22 minutes Bower himself had an effort well saved by Hanley keeper Knight. On 32 minutes Hanley were level a superb run down the right of the penalty area by Corey Muirhead was found by a brilliant pass by Twyford, Muirhead low cross was directed into the net by a Newcastle Town defender.

Newcastle Town started the second half like the first and were in front within 4 minutes of the restart H.Bower was sent clear on goal from a J.Jones pass to fire low the far corner of the net. Seven minutes later J.Jones had clear sight of goal but fired over the crossbar after being set up by Richie.
Hanley levelled on 62 minutes a corner was partially cleared straight to Jake Twyford who volleyed past the diving Castle keeper Slinn. Four minutes later a superb defence splitting pass by Hanley's Muirhead found Middleton who fired a shot just wide. Four minutes later Twyford fired just wide of the post.
On 85 minutes Hanley had the ball in the net with Porter tapping home from a Jack Van Der Laan corner but was ruled out for a foul on Castle keeper Slinn. With two minutes left on the clock Hanley went in front in the game for the first time and what a goal it was. From a Lucas Sant freekick both Joel Stair and Jake Twyford flick on's the latter found Lewis Porter who turned and hit a first time volley that flew into the top corner of the net.
But with seconds remaining a brilliant point blank save by Hanley Town keeper Lucas Knight from an L.Witney 8 yard shot denied the Castle number 9 a goal and a Newcastle Town equaliser.
