Hanley Town have been drawn away to National League North side Spalding United in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, the tie to be played on Saturday 19th September.

Hanley Town and Spalding United have met once before in an FA Vase tie during the 1987/88 season under then manager Peter Ward. The game was played at Spalding United's Sir Halley Stewart Ground, Hanley gave their higher league level opponents a bit of a fright almost taking the tie to a replay .

Spalding United won the tie 2-1 after extra-time. Hanley were reduced to 10 men when i think Dave Murtagh was the Hanley Town player sent off early in the second half. Steve Goodwin scored Hanley Town's goal.
